Welcome to The Hazels! (Year 2)
Happy New Year! We have a busy term ahead and lots of hard work to do in the Hazels class! We are very happy to be welcoming our student teacher Miss Youd into our class until Easter. She will be working with the children and will teach them for some of the time.
Here is what we'll be up to this half term:
English: We will be getting our editing heads on this half term. The children will continue to improve their skills in editing and improving their own work before it is marked by the teachers to ensure they are being super independent learners. We will be writing lots of narrative and bringing our writing into lots of other subjects such as topic and science.
Maths: The children will be introduced to written methods in multiplication and will be learning about division of numbers. We will also re-visit ordering numbers and introduce using the greater than, less than and equals symbol to compare numbers. We will explore data handling in our topic and science lessons and look at weight and capapcity in measures. In shape, we will re-visit lines of symmetry in regular and irregular 2D shapes.
Topic:Our topic this half term is 'Weather Experts'. This is all about looking at the world around us and further afield to explore different weather and climates. We will explore extreme weather, how to measure aspects of the weather and even perform our own weather forecasts! We will also be putting together an art project based around the topic of weather with the children producing 4 pieces of art inspired by the four seasons.
P.E:Year 2's P.E. days are Mondays. Please ensure your child has the correct kit and it is in school.
I have added some sample questions to ask your child when you are listening to them read at home and some common spelling words. Give them a go!
The gallery will be regularly updated with pictures of the children learning and taking part in different events throughout the year so please take a look.
We really appreciate your support with your child's learning. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to speak to us.
