Welcome to The Gingerbread House

The Gingerbread House is Salford's ASC Resource Provision which caters for up to 18 primary aged pupils with Education Health and Care Plans and a diagnosis of autistic spectrum condition. Due to the children's needs, there is a high level of staffing: an assistant headteacher (who is also the SENCO and Gingerbread 1 class teacher), 2 further class teachers and 4 teaching assistants. All staff are trained to meet the pupils' learning, social and speech and language needs. Joining our team is our Speech Therapist who spends one day per week in school and our Midday Assistant who supports at lunchtime.

In the Gingerbread House we have a regular routine and provide a small, nurturing environment in which children feel safe and secure. Staff work with children to support all aspects of their learning and development: from maths and Literacy to communication, social skills and independence.

The children in the Gingerbread House have the opportunity to work with their mainstream peers. Some of our children integrate for maths and Literacy, whilst others enjoy Topic, PE and Music with the other classes.

We follow the national curriculum and provide an individually tailored curriculum for our pupils. The children enjoy multisensory activities to help them learn and remember. Trips out and inviting visitors into school are planned to enrich our curriculum for the pupils; to provide them with life experiences and to reinforce their learning.

Integration is an important part of our day and the children go to the main school for various different lessons. This is planned carefully taking each pupil's individual needs into account. Currently, our children have taken part in assemblies, music lessons and PE lessons. Integration will increase throughout the year if it is appropriate for the child.

We work closely with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress and day in school and, likewise, we encourage close communication from them to tell us about particular issues or general news. Each term, parents are invited into school to take part in our Fun Day. Each Fun Day has a theme and parents/grandparents are encouraged to come into school to enjoy the activities with their child.
